Martin said that "work derived from landscape explores the rhythmic lines and related shapes which are sometimes echoed in other areas of the painting. This sometimes leads to a simplified statement bordering on abstraction, which is the quality of landscape which interests me". Showed in mixed exhibitions at RSA, RA and Compass Gallery, Glasgow. Had a solo show at Stone Gallery, Newcastle, 1965. several more in Scotland, including Kingfisher Gallery, Edinburgh, 1991 and a first one-man show in London at Thackeray Gallery, 1992.
