ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

Roderick Alder

We are delighted to welcome Rod Alder to The Wallington Gallery a local artist with a distinctive style. Born in Newcastle Upon Tyne, Rod started painting later in life. His working background was as an advertising and marketing executive.

Rod describes his work as follows " I wandered into art through a genetic force, my late father being James Alder, a noted natural history and ornithological artist who painted for the Royal Family. This had some bearing on my views of the beautiful Northumberland landscapes but this developed into a love of our architecture in the City, towns, villages and countryside. Buildings of stone, brick, slate and wood are as much a part of the landscape as are the hills, fields and trees, their form being shaped, as in nature, by the elements and the passage of time. My work has evolved into painting in sepia which I feel best reflects their forms and indeed the countryside of Northumberland with its warm tones of moorland, sandstone and peaty rivers."

Recently Rod has been involved in commission work producing excellent paintings of customers homes.

We are convinced that you will enjoy the paintings by Rod as much as we do. He is also available for commissions.
