Ernest Borough Johnson (1867-1949)
The Onion Sellers

Born in Shifnal, Shropshire he was married to Esther Borough Johnson. He attended Slade School of Fine Art under Alphonse Legros and the Herkomer School at Bushy, where he was a star student. Was professor of fine art at Bedford College, London University and was for many years head of the art department at Chelsea Polytechnic. Exhibited prolifically at RA, RBA, ROI, Paris Salon, where he won several awards in the 1920s. British Museum, V & A Museum, National Portrait Gallery hold his work.
