Measures 7cm x 13cm, is signed, and is painted on brown paper. It is made up of 2 pieces of paper, the right edge is the smaller part, something the artist occasionally did. It is in its original mount and frame and has never been opened since its original purchase from the Stone Gallery, Newcastle, sometime in the 1960's. It has the original Stone Gallery label verso which bears the buyer's name, D Edkins Esq, the exhibition number of 107 and the title 'Morning'. It is a lovely painting capturing Norman Cornish at his intimate best.

Norman Cornish (1919 -)

Norman Cornish is one of the North East's most popular living artists.His paintings capture the essence of what's it's like to live 'up north'.
Norman grew up in the depression years after the first world war and began drawing at the age of four. He excelled at school - but was destined to follow his father and grandfather into mining. He signed on at the Dean and Chapter colliery aged 14.Despite his eventual fame Norman was never tempted to leave County Durham and the community that provided his inspiration for the last 80 years.
