His work is held in the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Laing Art Gallery, Newcastle.

This painting is a fine example of his work and of a well known Northumberland village on the boundary with Co.Durham, popular with locals and tourists alike. The painting was exhibited at Dean Art Gallery, Newcastle in celebration of their 25th anniversary in 1993 and the Laing Art Gallery 'Looking North' Exhibition 1994. It also features in 'The Artists of Northumbria' as an illustration on page 103.

His work is rare to the market and we are delighted to offer this exceptional painting, along with the above documents, for sale on behalf of a private collector.

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

Byron Eric Dawson (1896-1968)

Artist, illustrator and teacher, born in Bambury, Oxfordshire, with a special interest in architectural subjects. As en engineering apprentice in Newcastle upon Tyne, where he settled, he was encouraged to study art at Armstrong College, teaching there until 1927. Success at the RA in 1928 launched his professional painting career, which soon was concentrated in the northeast of England, although Dawson did show briefly at RSA. Drew for the Newcastle Journal newspaper. Dawson contributed nine Lancashire scenes the Pilgrim Trust recording Britain project and was included in the 1990 show at the Victoria and Albert Museum, which holds his work as do Laing Art Gallery in Newcastle and Shipley Art Gallery, Gateshead. His latter years, until a final illness, were marked by financial hardship.
