This is a superb painting featuring the Tyne Bridges and Newcastle Quayside in a crisp winter setting. Thornton is a well known Northumbrian artists who has published a number of books and videos in the art of painting. His work can be seen in the publication 'River Tyne from sea to source' which contains an extensive record of the villages and landmarks along the Tyne.

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

Ronald William Thornton (b.1936)

Born at South Shields Thornton is a self taught artist who went on to teach art. He has painted the Northumbrian landscape extensively and produced a series of work recording the Tyne from its source to the sea. His work is held in many private collections and institutions. There is a good write up in The Artists of Northumbria by Marshall Hall which also has an illustration of his work.
